Ostberg’s Grand Slam Boosts Bolidos to 10-5 win Over Llamas

Bowling Green, Kentucky– Erik Ostberg unloaded the bases with a grand slam, helping the Bolidos de Bowling Green (74-33) take down the Llamas de Hickory (45-59) 10-5 on Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The two teams play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with a 2:05 PM CT first pitch.

The Bolidos scored four runs in the first inning against Hickory starter Ben Anderson. Alika Williams led off with a double and Grant Witherspoon crushed a two-run homer off the scoreboard in right to take the lead, 2-0. With the bases empty, Curtis Mead and Evan Edwards hit back-to-back singles. Jordan Qsar drove in Mead with an RBI double, and in the next at-bat, Hill Alexander brought in Edwards with a ground ball to extend the advantage to 4-0.

Hickory scored a run in the top of the third on a Pedro Gonzalez solo homer to make it 4-1. The Llamas tied the game in the top of the fifth, starting with a sacrifice fly from Ezequiel Duran. In the next at-bat, Dustin Harris hit a two-run homer to even the score at 4-4.

The Bowling Green offense exploded in the sixth inning, scoring six runs against Hickory reliever Nick Yoder. Witherspoon led off with a walk and moved to third on a Mead single. Edwards walked in the next at-bat to load the bases, and Qsar pushed in the first run of the inning with a bases-loaded walk. Alexander added another run to the total with a base-hit, making the score 6-4 with the bases still loaded. Erik Ostberg stepped up the plate and crushed a grand slam 447 feet off the batters-eye, giving the Bolidos a 10-4 lead. Bowling Green’s bullpen gave up one run over the last four innings, closing out Hickory for a 10-5 win.

Carlos Garcia (7-2) tossed 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five in his seventh win of the year. Michael Costanzo pitched 1.0 scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Nathan Witt hurled 1.0 scoreless frame while walking and striking out one. Trevor Brigden tossed 1.0 perfect inning with one strikeout. Angel Felipe pitched the final inning, allowing a run on one hit while walking one and striking out three.
