DAYTON, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods continued their hot start to the season, winning their third straight game to open 2018 as they defeated the Dayton Dragons, 11-2. 1B Brendan McKay had a three RBI night to pace the Hot Rods, and RHP Tobias Myers picked up his first win of the season.
The host Dragons got on the board early, scoring a run just three batters into the game, and taking a 1-0 lead after one inning.
Bowling Green did not wait long to respond, as OF Carl Chester scored on an OF Eleardo Cabrera sac fly, knotting the score at 1-1.
Dayton took their final lead of the game in the third, when OF Stuart Fairchild 's RBI single scored SS Jeter Downs , and the Dragons led 2-1.
The Hot Rods closed the game scoring 10 unanswered runs in the final five innings, including two four-run frames.
In the fifth, Bowling Green used three hits, including a lead off double from Cabrera, to take a 3-2 lead.
Myers kept the Dragons at bay in the bottom of the inning. After walking the bases loaded, he induced a groundout to get out of the jam and keep the lead at 3-2.
In the seventh, the Hot Rods sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on just two hits, highlighted by RBI singles from SS Zach Rutherford and Zac Law, as the lead swelled to 7-2.
The Hot Rods completed the offensive barrage in the ninth, with an RBI double from 3B Adrian Rondon , and a two-run single from McKay, making the final 11-2.
For the third straight game to start the season, all nine hitters reached base.
Myers earned the win, improving to 1-0. He threw five innings, allowing four hits, two runs (both earned), walking five and striking out four. RHP Tyler Mondile (0-1) took the loss for Dayton. He pitched four and one-third innings, allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned), walking one and striking out five.
The Hot Rods will go for their second straight sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm Central. RHP Alex Valverde will take to the hill for Bowling Green, while Dayton will counter with RHP Wendolyn Bautista .
