BRADENTON, Fla - In front of a crowd amassing 5,523 strong in the first game of the 2018 season at LECOM Park, the Bradenton Marauders defeated the St. Lucie Mets by a 5-3 tally on Saturday night. On an evening which featured Pirates and Princesses along with fireworks off the field, both clubs provided the explosives on the field as well with a trio of home runs between them.

After Bradenton starter Oddy Nunez breezed through the top of the 1st inning in just eight pitches, the Marauders offese exploded for four runs in the bottom of the frame. Jared Oliva led off with a double and scored on a single from Bligh Madris, and Lucas Tancas knocked a single of his own, which set the scene for Alfredo Reyes to rocket his first homer of the season to right field and put the home team up 4-0.

The skies opened up after the first inning, and after an hour and two minute rain delay both starting pitchers were finished in their respective season debuts. Michael Wallace worked out of the pen for the Marauders and allowed a single run in five complete innnings as he struck out two batters. The Marauders only added one more run to the game in the 5th inning on a Madris sacrifice fly that drove in Jared Oliva for the second time on the night. Matt Eckelman picked up his first save, even as he allowed a solo home run to Mets first baseman Dash Winningham in the ninth.

The Marauders are back in action in their first Sunday day game of the season at 1:00 pm, with the pitching matchup featuring the RHP Luis Escobar making his season debut against RHP Harol Gonzalez for the Mets. The game will feature Family Fun Sunday featuring the postgame Kids Fun Run presented by Mosaic for kids 12 and younger.
