JUPITER, Fla. — Marauders bats managed just two hits Wednesday night, and a slim one-run lead vanished in the middle innings in a 4-1 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

The two hits, both singles, were a season-low for the Marauders (15-14), who went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The game marked the first time Bradenton was held to two hits in a game since a 3-1 defeat on July 24, 2021 at St. Lucie.

The loss overshadowed a dominant start by Valentin Linarez, who struck out a season-high seven batters over five scoreless innings. Linarez walked just two batters and allowed only two hits, both singles, and did not allow a runner past second base.

Linarez and Hammerheads (16-13) right-hander Edgar Sanchez (4-0) dueled for three scoreless innings each before the Marauders struck first in the fourth inning. Brenden Dixon led off with a walk, took second base on a Rodolfo Nolasco walk and advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a balk by Sanchez. Nolasco was left stranded at third.

Sanchez, however, went on to pitch six quality innings, striking out ten batters and allowing just one hit, an infield single in the third inning by Sergio Campana, who was later left stranded at third base.

The Hammerheads erased the Marauders’ 1-0 lead in the sixth, when right-hander Carlos Lomeli (2-2) took over in relief. Brady Allen hit a one-out triple and scored the tying run on a fielding error by second baseman Jase Bowen. Ian Lewis then singled, and after a flyout advanced Osiris Johnson to third base, Cristhian Rodriguez delivered a go-ahead RBI-single to left field.

Jupiter added a run in the seventh on an infield single by Johnson, and in the eighth, Kahlil Watson lined an RBI-single to left off Marauders righty Yunior Thibo for a 4-1 Jupiter lead.

Marauders bats, meanwhile, were unable to get a baserunner into scoring position after the fourth inning, and Sanchez gave way to relievers Luarbert Arias and Caleb Wurster, who combined for three scoreless innings to finish the game.

Bowen went 0-for-4 for Bradenton, ending his on-base streak at 16 games.

The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. RHP Carlos Jimenez (0-1, 2.31 ERA) will start for the Marauders against LHP Justin Fall (0-3, 6.75 ERA) for Jupiter.
