Miguel Perez Named Eight Manager in Marauders' Franchise History
 
Bradenton, Fla. - The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the minor league managerial and coaching assignments for the 2020 season.
Miguel Perez will manage the Marauders during the franchise's 11th season. He is in his 13th season with the Pittsburgh organization and the eighth manager to take the helm in Bradenton. Perez spent the 2019 season as the manager for the Greensboro Grasshoppers and led them to a 79-59 record and a third place finish. He also managed the Bristol Pirates in 2017 and 2018. In his managing career, Perez has produced a 127-145 record.
Perez made it to the major leagues for a brief stint during his playing career, appearing in 2 games with the Cincinnati Reds in 2005. He was named Cincinnati's minor league Defensive Player-of-the-Year and was selected to the Florida State mid-season All-Star team in 2005. Perez was also a non-roster spring training invitee in 2008 and 2009.
Drew Benes returns for his second season as the Bradenton pitching coach. 2020 is his third season overall with the Pirates.
Chris Petersen is Bradenton's new hitting coach. This is Petersen's third season coaching for the Pirates. He spent his first season with the West Virginia Power and his second with Greensboro. Petersen played professionally for 12 seasons with the Cubs, Rockies, Braves, Diamondbacks and Pirates organizations, making his Major League debut with Colorado in 1999. He has been a private baseball instructor for over 20 years, working with players at the college and high school level, down to the Little League level.
Tyler Brooks is Bradenton's new athletic trainer. This will be his fifth season with the Pirates having spent the 2019 season with the West Virginia Black Bears, the 2018 season with the Bristol Pirates where he captured the Appalachian League Trainer-of-the-Year honors, and spend the 2016 and 2017 seasons working at the Pirates academy for the Dominican Summer and Instructional Leagues. Brooks also spent part of the 2015 season working as an Athletic Trainer intern with the Boston Red Sox.
Logan Byman returns for his fourth season as the Bradenton strength coach. 2020 is his fifth season overall with the Pirates.
The 2019 Marauders home opener at LECOM Park will be on Thursday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. The Marauders host the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
