CLEARWATER, Fla. — Three Marauders hurlers combined on a two-hit shutout win, 4-0, over the Clearwater Threshers on Wednesday night at BayCare Ballpark.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Marauders (36-26, 65-62), who moved within one game of first place in the FSL West, thanks to a Dunedin loss to Palm Beach.

Anthony Solometo earned the win, allowing just one hit across five innings while striking out five. The southpaw allowed just one baserunner his first time through the order, then escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning with a double-play grounder before finishing his outing with a clean fifth inning.

Relievers Drew Irvine and Yunior Thibo each provided two innings of scoreless relief, combining for nine strikeouts for a total of 14 in the game.

The Marauders scored the only runs they would need in the third inning off Threshers (22-39, 57-69) starter Alex McFarlane. After Tsung-Che Cheng worked a two-out walk, Termarr Johnson laced a hard hit to right field. Clearwater right fielder Dakota Kotowski approached the ball at the base of the wall and raised his hands in the air, attempting to show the umpires that the ball was stuck at the bottom of the wall. Cheng and Johnson, however, never stopped running, and Johnson circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run as base umpire Nelson Fraley ruled that the ball was still live and playable.

In the top of the fifth, with reliever Jared Wetherbee pitching in relief, Bradenton added two more runs. Wetherbee opened the inning by issuing walks to Tanner Tredaway and Cheng before getting Johnson to pop out to third. But the left-hander proceeded to walk the next three batters in a row, with bases-loaded free passes to Jack Brannigan and Wyatt Hendrie plating one run each for a 4-0 Marauders lead.

The Marauders collected just four hits in the game, with Johnson adding a ninth-inning double, but Bradenton batters drew a total of 11 walks from the five Threshers pitchers who appeared.

Bradenton pitching allowed just two baserunners after the fourth inning, and Clearwater’s Erick Brito managed both of the home team’s two hits, singles in the fourth and ninth innings.

The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at BayCare Ballpark. RHP Carlos Jimenez will start for the Marauders, while RHP Starlyn Castillo will start for Clearwater.
