BRADENTON, Fla. - In the first game of a six game homestand beginning with a three game series against the last place Jupiter Hammerheads, the Bradenton Marauders were unable to score until the seventh inning in a 9-2 loss.
RHP Nick Burdi made his Pirates organizational debut after being acquired in a trade last December from the Phillies after undergoing Tommy John Surgery last May. Burdi was phenomenal over his single inning of work that featured three strikeouts of all three batters he faced on just 11 pitches in the first. LHP Oddy Nunez pitched behind Burdi for five innings, during which he allowed six runs on as many hits while walking and hitting three batters each with a single strikeout over 88 pitches. After another pair of relief arms allowed three additional runs in the seventh innings, LHP Jake Brentz came back from the disabled list to breeze through a hitless ninth inning in his return to the Marauders.
Coming out of the stretch in the seventh inning, Mitchell Tolman cracked his eighth double of the season as well as his third hit of the night and was driven around to score on a Garrett Brown RBI single to left field with two outs for the first Bradenton tally. Tolman finished the night a perfect 3-3 thanks to an eighth inning walk in his final plate appearance. The final offense for the home team was plated on a Hunter Owen solo home run in the very next inning to break a tie atop the team leaderboard with his 12th knock of the year.
The Marauders continue their three game set as part of a six game homestand tomorrow again the Jupiter Hammerheads. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm on Tuesday with RHP Evan Piechota starting for Bradenton with RHP Cody Poteet tossing for Jupiter.
