After opening the series with a win, the Bristol Pirates lost their second straight game to the Greeneville Reds in a 4-1 defeat on Sunday night.
Bristol jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by designated hitter Samuel Inoa to score center fielder Daniel Rivero from second base. Pirates starter Santiago Florez stymied the Reds' offense for five innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three. Yoelvis Reyes came on in relief of Florez and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings before surrendering the game-tying run in the top of the seventh inning. The Reds took the lead on back-to-back doubles in the eighth inning before adding two more runs in the ninth to top the Pirates.
Left fielder Jean Eusebio led the Pirates at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double in the loss. First baseman Ernny Ordonez recorded his first career hit on Sunday as he finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Right fielder Brendt Citta finished 1-for-4 with his third double of the season as he now has a hit in five of the last six games.
The Pirates (1-5) have an off day tomorrow before they head on the road for a three-game series at Elizabethton beginning on Tuesday. Tahnaj Thomas will take the mound to open the series with the Twins as he makes his second start of the year. In his last start, Thomas threw 1/3 of an inning against the Royals, allowing four runs - two earned - on one hit and two walks.
