Brooklyn, NY – (May 1, 2022) – The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones by the score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. Alexander Ovalles was the driving force for the Hot Rods offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Bowling Green pitchers struck out 14 Cyclones and Brooklyn never got a runner to third base in the game.

After a scoreless first inning, Brooklyn starter Daison Acosta (0-3) found himself in trouble in the top of the second. After retiring the first two batters in the inning, Logan Driscoll worked a walk and Tanner Murray singled to put a pair of runners aboard for Ovalles who ripped a double into the left-field corner, scoring a pair, and giving Bowling Green a 2-0 advantage.

The lead would swell to 4-0 in the fourth after an RBI single from Ovalles plated a run and later, with Brooklyn reliever Sammy Tavarez on the mound, a wild pitch allowed Tanner Murray to score what would be the game’s final run.

The Cyclones didn’t register a base runner after the sixth inning as the Brooklyn bats were shut out for the third time this season, and for the third time in the last eight games.

Brooklyn will hit the road to open a six-game series with the South Atlantic League Northern Division-leading Aberdeen IronBirds on Tuesday at Ripken Stadium in Maryland. Brooklyn will return to Coney Island for two weeks of baseball starting on May 10th when they welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
