Wappingers Falls, NY (June 29, 2022) – The Cyclones fell to Hudson Valley on Wednesday night by the score of 8-5. The Renegades scored three in the 8th to break a 5-5 tie and ran away with the win. Matt Rudick went 1-for-3 with a home run, RBI and three runs scored to pace the Brooklyn offense.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early lead when Matt Rudick walked to lead off the game, and Shervyen Newton was hit by a pitch before Nic Gaddis hit a three-run home run over the left field wall. So, just three batters into the game the Cyclones had a 3-0 lead.

The Renegades scored a pair in the third and three in the fourth to chase Brooklyn starter Mike Vasil from the game. The righthander allowed five runs, earned, on six hits while walking two and striking out seven over 3.2 innings but didn’t factor in the decision because the Cyclones were able to rally to get back to even.

In the top of the fifth Matt Rudick was hit by a pitch and came all the way around to score on a double by Shervyen Newton, couple with a throwing error from Hudson Valley right fielder, to make it 5-4. After a scoreless sixth the Cyclones got even, and it was Matt Rudick again – this time with a solo shot – to knot the score at 5-5.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Hudson Valley exploded for three runs off of Brooklyn reliever Nolan Clenney to take control of the game for good. Trey Sweeney worked a walk before Everson Pereira doubled to score the go-ahead run and make it 6-5 Hudson Valley. Anthony Seigler followed with an RBI double of his own and would later score on an RBI groundout that made it 8-5.

Brooklyn’s Michael Krauza made his affiliated debut in the bottom of the eighth, tossing a 1-2-3 inning of relief. The righthander was signed by the Mets from the Cleburne Railroaders of the American Associated last week.

The Cyclones will look to bounce back on Thursday evening when they take on Hudson Valley in Game Three of the six-game series at Dutchess Stadium.
