Kyle Drabek joins Bisons staff

Blue Jays promote Weber, Pillar and Kawasaki from Herd
August 14, 2013

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they have selected the contract of OF KEVIN PILLAR from the Buffalo Bisons. Toronto has also recalled INF MUNENORI KAWASAKI and RHP THAD WEBER from the Herd.

The Bisons announced that RHP KYLE DRABEK has been promoted to the team from Double-A New Hampshire.

Drabek, 25, began the 2013 season with Single-A Dunedin of the Florida State League as the righty continued his return from 'Tommy John' surgery on June 19, 2012. He made six starts and eight appearances with Dunedin and was 0-1 with a 2.61 ERA in 20.2 innings of work (14 H, 20 SO). He did not allow a run over his final six outings with the club (15.1 IP). Drabek then made two starts for Double-A New Hampshire, August 2-8, with a 3.38 ERA and an 0-1 record (8.0 IP, 4 H, 3 SO).

Drabek started 13 games for the Blue Jays in 2012 before suffering a torn right elbow ligament on June 13 in a game against the Washington Nationals. The former 1st round pick of the Phillies (2006) was 4-7 with a 4.67 ERA with Toronto before the injury (71.1 IP, 67 H, 47 SO).

In 52 games with the Bisons, Pillar has hit .299 (60-201) with 19 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 27 RBI. Since his June 21 promotion to the Bisons, the Triple-A rookie has more extra-base hits (27) than any other player at the Triple-A level. For the Herd, Pillar made 21 starts in left field, 20 in centerfield and 10 in right field.

Weber was 6-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 15 appearances and 12 starts for the Bisons this season (82.0 IP, 71 H, 69 SO). The righty was 3-0 in his last four starts with the Herd.

Kawasaki has been with the Bisons since July 13, his third stint with the team. In 25 total games with the Bisons this season, the infielder has averaged .250 (15-60) with three RBI and three stolen bases.
