Bulls Win Third Straight Over IronPigs

Romero strong, offense scores four in second

DURHAM, NC - The first-place Durham Bulls won their third straight game over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 4-2 at the DBAP on Sunday evening.

The Bulls (35-23) did all their damage in the second inning, starting with a Vince Belnome line-drive double off the wall in right, scoring the first run of the game. Later in the frame Robby Price delivered an RBI grounder to score Jayson Nix, before Cole Figueroa hit a two-run double into the gap in left-centerfield for a 4-0 advantage.

The Bulls managed only three more hits the rest of the way, but the Durham pitching staff kept the IronPigs (29-28) in check. Enny Romero (3-5) earned the win, giving up two runs (one earned) in 6 2/3 innings while striking out four to snap a personal four-game losing streak. Brandon Gomes relieved the southpaw and struck out four in 1 1/3 innings of work, while Jeff Beliveau pitched the ninth for his sixth save, extending his scoreless inning streak this season to 22 2/3 innings with Durham.

Right-hander Sean O'Sullivan (2-5) took the loss for Lehigh Valley (29-28), allowing four runs on seven hits over six frames.

The Bulls look to sweep the four-game series with the IronPigs on Monday at 1:05 p.m. RHP Matt Andriese (5-3, 3.92) starts for the Bulls against Lehigh Valley right-hander Brad Lincoln (1-3, 5.90).
