Mike Fontenot Named IL Player of the Week

Infielder Fueled Durham Offense During Wild Week
August 18, 2014

The International League today announced Durham infielder Mike Fontenot and Buffalo pitcher Scott Copeland have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from August 11‐17. Fontenot's honor is the third such distinction for the Bulls this season, as he follows pitcher Mike Montgomery who has been named the League's pitcher of the week twice (April 21‐27 & May 12‐18).

Fontenot hit .542 over the past week and led the International League with 13 hits, six extra‐base hits, five doubles, and a .833 slugging percentage. He was 2nd in the IL for the week with 9 RBI, bolstered by a season‐high 4‐RBI effort against Rochester in a game suspended Tuesday and completed Wednesday. Fontenot banged out four hits in that game, an achievement he repeated in the series finale on Thursday. He is now hitting .280 on the season in 104 games played for the Bulls. The 34‐year‐old is in his 12th season as a professional player and last won a Triple-A Player of the Week award as a member of the Iowa Cubs (PCL) in 2007. A veteran of Slidell, LA, he is a veteran of 582 games in the Major Leagues with the Cubs, Giants, and Phillies and is now in his second season with the Rays organization.

The International League Champions resume their final lengthy homestand of the season on Tuesday, August 19, as the first place Bulls begin a crucial three-game series with second place Norfolk. Tickets for the nine remaining regular season home games and the 2014 Governors' Cup Playoffs are available now at the DBAP box office, by phone at 919.956.BULL or online HERE at durhambulls.com.
