Bees Can't Hold Off Bandits

Navarro doubles twice in loss

(Davenport, IA) - The Burlington Bees (46-63) lost their second straight game, losing 9-8, to the Quad Cities River Bandits (62-46) on Thursday night at Modern Woodman Park. 

Quad Cities scored the final four runs on Wednesday and then opened the scoring on Thursday. Ronnie Dawson started the bottom of the first inning with a single to center and then moved to third on a Chuckie Robinson double. With one out, Daz Cameron hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Dawson, giving the River Bandits a 1-0 lead.

For the second straight night, Richie Fecteau hit a solo home run to right field, this time tying the game at one in the top of the second inning. Quad Cities would answer in the bottom of the inning. Kristian Trompiz walked and then stole second base. With two outs, Osvaldo Duarte tripled to left, scoring Trompiz, giving the River Bandits a 2-1 lead. 

With one out in the third inning, Troy Seiber and Daz Cameron hit back-to-back singles. After a fly out, Kristian Trompiz doubled to center, scoring both Seiber and Cameron, extending the Quad Cities' lead to 4-1. 

Sam McDonnell walked with one out in the fifth inning, snapping a streak of 10 batters retired in a row by Cristian Javier. With two outs, Franklin Navarro doubled to right field, scoring McDonnell, cutting the deficit to 5-2. The River Bandits would get the run back thanks to a bases loaded walk issued to Kristian Trompiz in the bottom of the sixth inning, making the score 6-2.

The Bees battled back in the seventh inning. With one out, Derek Jenkins singled. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Franklin Navarro smacked a two run double to left. Juan Moreno then hit a two run double to right, tying the game a two.

After Quad Cities tied the game at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bees scored two runs in the top of the eighth on a Sam McDonnell RBI groundout and a John Schuknecht RBI single, putting the Bees back on top, 8-7. The lead didn't last long however as the River Bandits took the lead back in the eighth. Quad Cities tied the game thanks to a throwing error and then Ronnie Dawson singled to left, scoring Osvaldo Duarte, giving the River Bandits a 9-8 lead.

Quad Cities' reliever Salvador Montano (5-2) earned the win while Adrian Almeida (0-3) was charged with the loss. The Bees and River Bandits will conclude the series on Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Modern Woodman Park. Luis Madero will make the start for the Bees in his Bees' debut.
