(Peoria, IL) - The Burlington Bees (31-38) finished the first half with a 4-3 loss to the Peoria Chiefs (30-39) on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.
With two outs in the first inning, Keith Grieshaber lined a single to left. After Sam McDonnell worked a walk, John Schuknecht singled to left, scoring Grieshaber, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.
The lead didn't last long as the Chiefs broke out the bats in the second inning. Stefan Trosclair and Juan Yepez started the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out, Dylan Carlson launched a ball over the left-field wall, giving the Peoria Chiefs a 3-1 lead.
Peoria's home run barrage continued in the fifth inning. Andrew Young started the inning by blasting a solo home run to right field, extending the Chiefs lead to 4-1. The Bees made it close in the ninth, scoring a pair of runs on fielder's choices from Juan Moreno and Derek Jenkins, but fell short, losing the series finale, 4-3.
Peoria reliever Dewin Perez (1-0) earned the win while Nate Bertness (3-5) was charged with the loss. Yeison Medina (4) earned the save.
Following the three-day All-Star break, the Burlington Bees will return home on Thursday, June 22 when they host the Peoria Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field.
