(Burlington, IA) - The Peoria Chiefs launched three home runs in route to an 8-2 win over the Burlington Bees in the season opener on Friday night, at Community Field, in Burlington.

Peoria wasted no time starting the offense on Friday night. With one out, Dylan Carlson smacked a solo home run to right field, putting the Chiefs on top 1-0. Bees' starter Sam Pastrone worked around a pair of singles to get out of the inning with no further damage.

After the Bees left the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Peoria extended their lead thanks to a three-run third inning. After back-to-back walks, Andrew Knizner doubled to left, scoring Carlson, upping the Chiefs' lead to 2-0. Brian O'Keefe doubled the Chiefs' lead with a single to center, putting the Chiefs in front 4-0.

Peoria went on to add two runs in the seventh, one in the eighth and another in the ninth before the Bees broke through for two runs in the ninth. Troy Montgomery started the bottom half of the inning with a walk and then moved up to second on a walk issued to Brennan Morgan. After a Roberto Baldoquin walk, Jordan Serena was hit by a pitch, scoring the first run of the season. Jahmai Jones drove in another run on a fielder's choice. That would be the closest the Bees would get the Chiefs, losing the season opener, 8-2.

Bees' catcher Jack Kruger picked up two hits while Serena and Jones drove in the Bees' two runs. Chiefs' catcher Andrew Knizner was a home run shy of the cycle, finishing 4-for-5.

Peoria starter Jordan Hicks (1-0) threw six shutout innings, earning the win. Sam Pastrone (0-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees head to Peoria to begin a five game road-trip. Jesus Castillo makes the start for the Bees against Ian Oxnevad tomorrow night at 6:30.
