Castillo Halts Snappers in Opener

Bees snap three game skid with win

(Beloit, WI) - The Bees snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the Beloit Snappers, 3-1, in game one of the series on Thursday night at Pohlman Field. 

The Bees opened the scoring on Thursday night, taking the lead in the second inning. Jordan Zimmerman and Brennan Morgan opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Jeyson Sanchez grounded into a double play, scoring Zimmerman, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.

With two outs in the fifth, Juan Moreno doubled to left and then came home to score on a Josh Merrigan single. Brennon Lund upped his hitting streak to eight games by singling into right, scoring Merrigan, extending the Bees' lead to 3-0.

Bees' starter Jesus Castillo worked five innings and did not allow a run, rendering just two hits while striking out five. Beloit scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning on a Nate Mondou sacrifice fly. Samil De Los Santos (1) worked two scoreless innings, earning the save, securing the Bees 3-1 win. Castillo (1-1) earned the win while Ty Damron (0-2) was charged with the loss. 

The Bees and Snappers continue the series on Friday night at 6:30 pm as Joe Gatto gets the start for the Bees against Dakota Chalmers for Beloit.
