Season Ends With 12-1 Loss

Bees finish 2016 season with 68 wins

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (68-72) wrapped up the 2016 season with a 12-1 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits (61-78) on Monday afternoon at Community Field.

Quad Cities got the offense started quick, opening the game with a Bobby Wernes double. Dexture McCall gave the River Bandits the lead by knocking a single into right field, scoring Wernes, giving the River Bandits a 1-0 lead. Quad Cities upped their lead in the third inning. McCall opened the frame with a triple to right and then scored on a Pat Porter ground out, extending the lead to 2-0.

The Bees scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning. Jordan Serena led off with a walk and advanced to third on back-to-back groundouts. Jahmai Jones sprayed a single into left, scoring Serena, cutting the River Bandits' lead to 2-1.

Quad Cities opened the game up in the seventh inning, batting 12 times. The River Bandits scored seven runs on six hits and capitalized on a pair of Bees' errors to take a 9-1 lead. The River Bandits weren't done, scoring two more runs in the eighth inning and adding an exclamation mark in the ninth on a solo homer from Dexture McCall to make it a 12-1 game.

Just Farrell (5-6) earned the win for Quad Cities while Erik Manoah (0-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees finish the 2016 season 68-72, missing the playoff by just a game and a half. The Bees will open the 2016 season on April 6th. Check in the fall for full schedule details.
