Next in Burlington Royals history we have World Series winner Kelvin Herrera. Herrera spent the 2008 season wearing #44 for the Burlington Royals and was dominant from the start, with 2-2 record and a 1.42 ERA. He started eight games and pitched in another three games, only giving up eight earned runs and five walks all season. Herrera's first game ended in a No-Decision after the Royals fell 5 to 3 to the Danville Braves. He gave up one earned run and struck out three batters in five innings pitched. He ended his stint in Burlington with forty-five strikeouts and a season WHIP (walk plus hits per inning) under 1.05. Kelvin still has the number one spot for ERA since Burlington became a Royals' affiliate.
Herrera has spent the last seven seasons in the big leagues, all with the Kansas City Royals, except for being traded to Washington Nationals in the middle of the 2018 season. While in Kansas City, Herrera posted an impressive 2.75 ERA in 442 appearances. In those 442 appearances he struck out 438 batters. He has also appeared in the 2014 and 2015 World Series, along with two All-Star Games. He will start the 2019 season with the Chicago White Sox.
