Danville, VA - The Burlington Royals (4-17) dropped a 10-5 contest to the Danville Braves (11-9) on Tuesday night, in the first game of a four-game series.
The Braves took a commanding lead in just the first inning, scoring four two-out runs off Burlington starter Randy Acevedo. Danville added another run in the second to make it 5-0.
The Royals first run of the night came in the fourth, on Freddy Fermin's RBI double. Fermin was the star of the night in a losing effort, with two doubles, a home run, and three runs batted in.
Burlington also scored runs in the fifth and sixth, and cut the game to just a two-run deficit in the eighth, but Danville scored three runs in that eighth inning to extend their lead to 10-5. They won the game by that score.
The second game of the series is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Danville.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
