Former Burlington Indian Jim Thome Inducted Into Appalachian League Hall of Fame

The slugger is part of the league's inaugural Hall of Fame class.

The Appalachian League announced this morning that former Burlington Indian Jim Thome has been named a member of the league's inaugural Hall of Fame class. Thome is one of seven former players to be inducted in the class, all of whom are members of Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame

The Appalachian League announced this morning that former Burlington Indian Jim Thome has been named a member of the league's inaugural Hall of Fame class. Thome is one of seven former players to be inducted in the class, all of whom are members of Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
Thome spent the 1990 season in Burlington, hitting for a .373 average with 12 HRs and 34 RBI. His Major League career spanned 22 seasons and included time with the Indians, Phillies, White Sox, Twins, Orioles and Dodgers. Thome became one of only nine players to hit more than 600 HRs (612), made five All-Star appearances, and won a Silver Slugger award.
Thome was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame last year, receiving 89.8 percent of votes in his first appearance on the ballot.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The Royals season starts on the road against the Bristol Pirates on Tuesday, June 18th.
