PRINCETON, WV - The Princeton Rays (33-17) defeated the Burlington Royals (16-37) by a score of 9-8 Tuesday night to sweep the four-game series.
The Royals got off to a hot start, scoring three times in the first inning. Eric Cole doubled to score Matt Morales to give Burlington a quick lead. Jackson Lueck then hit his fifth home run of the year to make it 3-0.
In the second, Cole drove in his second run of the game, singling in Michael Emodi to make it 4-0.
Princeton scored twice in the second and four times in the third to take a 6-4 lead. The game remained 6-4 until the seventh.
In the seventh, Cole scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to one. Juan Carlos Negret then brought in Rhett Aplin with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 6-6. Emodi gave the Royals the lead with a two-run double, making it 8-6.
The Rays came back and scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the game 9-8.
The B-Royals have the day off Wednesday and will begin a five-game home stand on Thursday.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
