Burlington, N.C. - The Yankees won a battle of the bats on the Fourth of July, taking down the Royals 7-5 in a game where home runs scored 10 of the 12 runs.
Antonio Cabello started it off in the top of the third with a solo homer, with Saul Torres adding another in the fourth to put Pulaski ahead 2-0 early. However, Logan Porter answered in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run shot to put Burlington ahead 3-2.
In the top of the fifth, the Yankees tied it up when first-round pick Anthony Volpe shot his first career home run. Then, with two outs in the top of the eighth, Spencer Henson hit a longball that put Pulaski ahead 5-3. Once again, the Royals answered. This time John Rave hit his first carrer homer on a two-run shot to right that tied the game at 5.
However, Pulaski scored two runs in the ninth on a wild pitch and a Torres RBI single to give the Yankees a 7-5 lead they didn't surrender.
Tyler Johnson, who pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief for Pulaski, earned the win. Alex Smith was credited with the loss after earning the runs that gave the Yankees the lead in the ninth.
Burlington and Pulaski play again on Friday at Burlington Athletic Stadium with first pitch set for 6:30 P.M.
