BURLINGTON, NC - The Burlington Royals (18-38) defeated the Bristol Pirates (27-30) by a score of 5-1 on Saturday evening. Royals starter Elvis Luciano had his best outing of the year, pitching six scoreless innings.
The Royals got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Colby Schultz drove in Freddy Fermin with an RBI single and Rafael Romero followed with an RBI single to give Burlington the 2-0 advantage.
The B-Royals added another run in the third, when Jose Marquez scored on a wild pitch.
In the seventh, the Royals scored two more runs. Marquez scored on a throwing error, and Chris Hudgins drove in Matt Morales with an RBI groundout to make it 5-0.
Bristol scored a run in the eighth, but the Royals took the game by a score of 5-1.
The Royals will begin a two-game home series against the Danville Braves Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
