Burlington, N.C. - The Royals pulled out a miraculous comeback in the ninth inning against the Yankees before the taking the game 7-6 in 11 innings.
Burlington scored two runs in the bottom of the first with Michael Massey and Vinnie Pasquantino hitting groundouts to second base that scored John Rave and Maikel Garcia. The Yankees remained scoreless for the first four innings. However, in the top of the fifth, a Spencer Henson solo homer, an Anthony Volpe RBI triple and an error on the following play put Pulaski ahead 3-2. Pulaski added two more runs in the top of the eighth to take a 5-2 lead.
The Royals seemed to be out of it. But with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Vinnie Pasquantino roped a two-run double and Jake Means hit a single that scored Jay Charleston to tie the game at five and send it to extras.
Burlington outfielder Raymond Lopez pitched a scoreless tenth before Robert Javier scored in the 11th to put Pulaski ahead 6-5. However, the Royals responded fast in the bottom of the 11th. After Garcia advanced to third on a wild pitch, Massey brought him home on an RBI single to tie it at six. Finally, a few batters later with the bases loaded, William Hancock torched a single over right fielder Ryder Green to plate Massey and win the game 7-6.
The game lasted exactly four hours from first pitch to the final run crossing the plate.
Lopez earned the win after pitching both extra innings for the Royals while Elvis Peguero took the loss for the Yankees.
With the series tied at one, the rubber match is set for Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 P.M.
