With the Burlington Royals season just a few days away, here's a look at how some former B-Royals are doing within the organization.
Kansas City Royals (MLB)
2B/SS Nicky Lopez earned a call-up to the big club after a dominant start in Triple-A. Lopez hit .353 with three homers and 13 RBI in 31 games for the Omaha Storm Chasers before getting a promotion. Lopez played in Burlington during the 2016 season.
Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA)
CF Bubba Starling is hitting his stride with the Storm Chasers. The 2011 first-round pick is hitting .344 with four homeruns and 24 RBI. He also has eight stolen bases, nine doubles, and two triples in 51 games. Starling started his professional career in Burlington in 2012.
3B Humberto Arteaga is making good use of his bat in Omaha. The Venezuela native is hitting .305 with five homers and 23 RBI. He's also been speedy on the basepaths, picking up 10 stolen bases. Arteaga played for Burlington back in 2012.
Northwest Arkansas Naturals (AA)
RHP Yunior Marte has been rock-solid in relief for the Naturals this season. The hurler has a 2.03 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched, striking out 28 batters and holding opposing batters to a .179 average. Marte made his US debut in Burlington back in 2014.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (A+)
LHP Daniel Lynch continues to pitch well up in the Carolina League after making 3 appearances with Burlington in 2018. The southpaw owns a 4-2 record with a 3.09 ERA in 11 starts for the Wilmington.
Lexington Legends (A)
LHP Austin Cox has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 27-June 2. In his lone appearance, a start against the West Virginia Power on May 28, Cox pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and one walks while striking out seven. In addition, he was also recently named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Team. Cox pitched for Burlington in 2019.
C Chase Vallot was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Team. Vallot leads Lexington with nine home runs. He played for Burlington back in 2014.
CF Michael Gigliotti was also named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Team. Gigliotti is hitting .286 with 17 doubles and 18 RBI. He leads the SAL in stolen bases (25) and has only been caught stealing four times. Gigliotti played in Burlington back in 2017.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The Royals season starts on the road against the Bristol Pirates on Tuesday, June 18th. The home opener at Burlington Athletic Stadium is on Monday, June 24th against the Kingsport Mets. Single game tickets are on sale now!
