Bullpen woes continue in 4-3 loss to Tri-City on Sunday

June 16, 2013

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Moments after grabbing their first lead of the night, the Vancouver Canadians gave up three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to fall 4-3 to Tri-City on Sunday night to fall to 1-2 (.333) on the young Northwest League season.

Tri-City would open the scoring in the home half of the 1st inning when 2B Patrick Hutchenson hustled for an infield single and then scored when SS Alec Mehrten tripled to deep center field off of Canadians starter RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (gab-ah-RISK-ski) to give the Dust Devils a 1-0 lead.

Vancouver would score three runs in the top of the 7th inning to grab their first lead of the night. Canadians 1B Jordan Leyland hit his 1st home run off of Tri-City starter RHP Johendi Jiminian. The Tri-City starter dazzled prior to allowing the home run to Leyland as the native of Nagua, DR went 6 1/3 innings, striking out six.

For the second straight night, the Dust Devils offense would pounce on the Vancouver bullpen scoring a trio of runs in the bottom of the 8th inning as SS Alec Mehrten smacked a two-run single to right field off of Canadians reliever RHP Jon Kountis who had just come in to try and strand a pair of runners put on-base by RHP Jordan D' Alessandro.

Vancouver would manage a leadoff walk in the top of the 9th inning to put the tying run on base, but Tri-City closer RHP Trent Blank would settle in and get 2B Jorge Vega-Rosado to ground out for his second save of the three-game series.

Note:  Canadians 1B Jordan Leyland is 6-for-7 (.857) in his past two games vs. Tri-City pitching…  3B Jason Leblebijian has managed a hit in each of his first three games this summer.
