(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club has announced its second member of the 2017 Superstar Series, presented by Blakes & The BC Sports Hall of Fame as Canadian-born, Major League veteran Corey Koskie is headed out to historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, August 8th.
Koskie, now 43, broke into the Major Leagues with Minnesota in 1998 becoming a fixture in the Twin Cities for seven seasons. In his breakout season (2001) Koskie would become the first third baseman in American League history to record at least 100 runs, 25 homers, 100 RBI and 25 stolen bases in the same season. For his efforts, he was named co-winner (with Larry Walker) of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's Tip O'Neill Award.
For three straight years, Koskie would help the Twins reach the post-season (2002-04) playing in 18 games (.224-1-9) reaching the American League Championship Series in 2002.
Christmas would come early for Koskie on December 14th, 2004 when he signed as a free-agent with the Toronto Blue Jays becoming just the 11th player of Canadian-decent to suit up for Canada's Team. In his lone year North of the Border, Koskie hit .249 in 97 games with Toronto before he was traded to Milwaukee.
Prior to reaching the Major Leagues, Koskie was drafted in the 26th Round of the 1994 Major League Baseball Draft after playing with the now-defunct National Baseball Institute (Surrey, B.C.).
Koskie was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015 and competed with Canada at the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classics.
Corey Koskie is the second of three (3) Superstar Series appearances set to be announced by the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club this week. Yesterday it was noted that former Atlanta Braves slugger Dave Justice is coming to Scotiabank Field on Tuesday, July 18th at 7:05pm.
