Canadians Now Just Days Away From Season

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - After a nearly nine month slumber, the Vancouver Canadians are ready to turn the lights back on out at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium and try to make it four straight Northwest League Championships.

Between now and the first pitch of the summer, there are still alot of little details that go into the final weeks leading up to the season. Here's a peek at just a few of the final moments leading up to Opening Night.

Clubhouse:

The Canadians have been fortunate to have Glenn Hall for the past nine seasons as Clubhouse Attendant. Glenn is the one man who will eat, sleep and breathe everything C's all summer long. From cooking the players and staff meals to ensuring every item is ready and assigned to each of our players - this job is definitely not for those who like to hit the snooze button.

This week, Glenn has been unpacking any number of items that are new to the Canadians in 2014. Four sets of uniforms include jerseys, belts, pants, socks, hats and all the baseball trimmings. Add to that his organizing of the clubhouse kitchen, medical room, coaches lounge and general area and there is good reason the staff around Scotiabank Field calls Glenn by the nickname of 'Magic'.

Field:

The actual playing surface out at Scotiabank Field has actually been getting alot of attention since March as taking care of an entire baseball playing surface comes with a variety of challenges. Irrigation has been checked, airation of the field has been completed and now its all about getting that grass as green as humanly possible in the final few weeks.

The dirt is so much more than just 'dirt' as there is a science in the composition of dirt / clay ratio and it also varies depending on where you are standing on the infield. Without giving too many of our Grounds Keepers secrets, let's just say that the mounds and home plate are already getting a little extra love in these final days leading up to the season.

Staff Training:

One thing that the Vancouver Canadians take a lot of pride in is how you are treated. From the time you first pull up your car, bike or walking shoes - we want you to feel as if you've come 'home'.  

We are already working with Aramark Food Services on the policies and procedures that each and every staff member will abide by. As well, our entire in-house staff, from ushers to tickets, front office to bat boys - are all learning how we can make your time out at the ballpark more memorable.

A vigorous training gets our staff excited about the season that lies ahead and we also educate them on what you might be looking for out at the ballpark whether it is the location of the washroom to who might be pitching next for our Canadians. We plan on covering all the bases this summer here at Scotiabank Field.

Video Board:

One of the most watched objects in the stadium is already getting booted up with new graphics and cool ways to entertain you.

The Canadians will be more interactive than ever before and our video board is designed to keep you informed and entertained. From posting your instagram photos during the game to letting you know which of our players is swinging the hot bat - our in-game staff is well underway and putting the final touches on our in-game presentation.

Community Relations:

Our preparation is definitely not limited to the confines of Scotiabank Field as we know that getting out and into the community is key to our success! We love making appearances at local events and fundraisers and have already been to more than 80 events since the calendar flipped to the year 2014. Were not done yet either, with a number of local leagues getting into the post-season, we plan on being at as many events as possible to ensure we cheer on our future Canadians, and also let fans know when we will be swinging our doors open this summer.

There are countless moving parts out at Nat Bailey Stadium right now, but those are just a few of the pieces to what we hope turns out to be another awesome puzzle this coming season.
