(PK Park - Eugene, OR) - A bases clearing triple from LF Chavez Young was more than enough Canadians starter RHP Dalton Rodriguez and three bullpen arms as Vancouver topped Eugene 7-0 on Friday night to remain undefeated to start the Northwest League season.
Pitching was the story with Rodriguez (1-0) collecting his first win of the season after five innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four. LHP Juliandry Higuera pitched a clean 6th and 7th inning striking out five while RHP Chris Hall (1.0IP) and RHP Bobby Eveld (1.0IP) each struck out two more to seal the shutout victory.
RF Lance Jones (2-for-2) and 2B Deiferson Barreto (2-for-3) had multi-hit nights for Vancouver with Jones hitting .800 through the first two games of the season, but the stage was LF Chavez Young's as the 39th rounder from last year's draft hit a bases clearing triple in the top of the 3rd inning to help seal the victory.
Notes: The Canadians have amassed 20 hits over the first 18 innings against Eugene… Vancouver pitching has managed 23 strikeouts in 18 innings against the Emeralds… Vancouver went 1-9 (.100) in ten head-to-head meetings vs. Eugene in 2016, and are 2-0 (1.000) this season… The last time the Canadians started the season 2-0 was 2014 when they topped Salem-Keizer on consecutive nights.
The Canadians will send RHP Kyle Weatherly (0-0) to the mound against RHP Bailey Clark (0-0) on Saturday night out at PK Park for Game Three of this Five-Game Series. This game can be heard on-line at www.canadiansbaseball.com
