Down To The Wire: C's Top Tri-City 4-2

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - Canadians 1B L.B. Dantzler and 3B Andy Fermin both went 2-for-4 while LHP Colton Turner went six strong innings as Vancouver kept their playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 victory in Tri-City on Saturday night.

Vancouver would trade runs with Tri-City in the 1st inning before scoring a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd inning. With two outs and no one on base, Tri-City starter RHP Tony Sanzatela hit DH David Harris who scored second later on a double off the bat of 3B Andy Fermin. With Fermin still catching his breath out at second base, Canadians 1B L.B. Dantzler smacked a single to right field that scored Fermin to give the C's a 3-1 lead.

The Canadians and Tri-City would trade runs again in the 4th inning which would be the last scoring of the night.

LHP Colton Turner went six innings scattering five hits on the night to improve his record to 4-5 ion the season while LHP Matt Dermody (2.0IP) and RHP Chuck Ghysels (1.0IP) came in to pitch the final three scoreless innings with Ghysels recording his 10th save of the season.

With the win, Vancouver improves to 38-36 (.514) through 74 regular season games ensuring at least a .500 finish this Northwest League season. The loss drops Tri-City to 33-41 (.446) on the year.

Notes:  Tri-City reliever RHP Troy Neiman recorded four strikeouts in the top of the 6th inning (Lugo, Reeves, Kalfus and Vazquez) as Reeves swung and missed for strike three but Dust Devils C Alex San Juan had the pitch go through his legs allowing Reeves to reach base…  Hillsboro Hops starter Kyle Scheple pitched a complete game no-hitter vs. Boise on Saturday night…  Spokane led Everett 5-2 late from Everett Memorial Stadium.

The Canadians and Dust Devils play game two of this three-game series on Sunday, September 1st at 7:15pm with LHP Alonzo Gonzalez (0-2, 2.84) to the mound opposite RHP Ryan Warner (3-4, 3.56).

Vancouver Canadians Playoff Baseball, presented by Scotiabank, will be on Tuesday, September 3rd at 7:05pm as the Canadians hope to face the Everett Aquasox in the North Division Final.
