Gimme Five! C's extend winning ways in Salem

June 23, 2013

(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - After trailing 6-1 heading to the top of the 6th inning, Vancouver's offense combined with suspect defense from Salem-Keizer helped the Canadians come from behind to win their 5th straight game with an 8-6 final over the Volcanoes.

Salem-Keizer got to Canadians starter LHP Bobby Brosnahan from the start chasing the University of Michigan prospect after just three innings of work scoring six runs on nine hits to build a 6-1 lead on the Canadians.

Vancouver was limited offensively by Volcanoes starter LHPJoe Kurrasch who pitched five innings allowing just one unearned run and looked poised to secure his first victory of the season giving way to the bullpen heading to the 6th inning.

The Canadians offense got help from seven Salem-Keizer errors over the course of Saturday night's game, but also produced nine hits on the night including a two-run double off the bat of RF Brendan Kalfus that scored both LF Ronnie Melendez and CF Ian Parmley to give Vancouver an 8-6 lead in the top of the 8th inning.

Four relievers helped LHP Bobby Brosnahan avoid his second straight loss of the season as RHP Justin James (3.0IP); LHP Joe Spano (1.0IP); RHP Matt Johnson (1.0IP) and RHP Jonathan Kountis (1.0IP) pitched scoreless baseball over the final five innings to secure Vancouver's 5th straight victory, 8-6 the final.

With the win, Vancouver improves to 6-3 (.667) on the season and moves to within one game of Everett in the NWL North Division while Salem-Keizer falls to 5-4 (.555) and have now lost four straight.

Notes:  The Volcanoes set a franchise record committing seven errors on the night…  Salem-Keizer RF Tyler Hollick was 5-for-5 on the night, all singles to improve his average on the season to .450

The Canadians and Volcanoes play game four of this five-game series on Sunday, June 23rd at 5:35pm with LHP Colton Turner getting the ball for Vancouver who look for a sixth consecutive victory.
