(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - DH David Jacob hit a grand slam in his first game back with the Canadians since the 2016 season, but it wasn't enough to help erase an early five-run deficit as the Spokane Indians handed Vancouver a fourth consecutive loss, 6-4, on Wednesday night.
The Indians scored five of their six runs in the top of the 4th inning that featured a handful of Canadians miscues combined with a bases-clearing single from CF Miguel Aparicio . All five runs came off of Vancouver reliever LHP Wilfri Aleton (2-2) who suffered the loss going five innings of relief allowing eight hits and six earned runs.
Jacob hit his grand slam in the bottom of the 4th inning to pull the Canadians to within a run and came up to the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning with a chance to hit his second grand slam of the game but flew out.
Vancouver was 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base including five in the bottom of the 5th and 6th inning. The C's helped Spokane with seven walks.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 16-11 (.593) on the season and got some help from Everett who topped Tri-City 11-5 to keep the Dust Devils two games back with 11 games remaining in the first half.
Vancouver and Spokane play game two of this three-game series on Thursday, July 13th at 7:05 pm.
