Bandits Sweep Captains With 5-2 Win

(Davenport, IA)- Chase McDonald hit a three run walk-off homerun over the left field fence and the Quad Cities River Bandits beat the Captains 5-2 in ten innings on Monday. The Captains have lost six straight games and were a combined 1-8 in the state of Iowa in 2014. The only win came on April 8th a 6-5 win over Clinton.

Quad Cities took the early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning Ronnie Mitchell walked and stole second base. With one out, Joe Fernandez tripled home Mitchell and the score was 1-0. Fernandez scored on a double by Mark Wik and the score was 2-0 Bandits.

Lake County got on the board in the top of the third inning. With two outs and a runner on first. Mike Papi hit a fly line drive towards the gap in left-center field. The Bandits left fielder dropped the baseball and the runner on first base raced around to score. The score was 2-1 Quad Cities after three innings.

The Captains tied the game in the top of the ninth inning. Dorssys Paulino and Paul Hendrix hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning. With runners on first and third and one out, Ivan Castillo hit a slow roller to shortstop and Paulino scored. The game was tied at 2-2.

RHP Caleb Hamrick (3-5) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Hamrick pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits, and three walks. Hamrick struck out six. Jimmy Stokes entered for the Captains in relief. Stokes pitched two innings and allowed one hit and two walks. Stokes struck out five. Trevor Frank pitched two scoreless innings and fanned one. Alexis Paredes (3-2) took the loss he pitched to three batters and allowed a single, double and the walk-off homer in the tenth.

RHP Adrian Houser (4-4) started for Quad Cities. Houser pitched six innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits and three walks. Houser struck out six and hit one batter. Houser did not get a decision. Quad Cities used two pitchers. The bullpen allowed one earned run in four innings of relief. The win went to Andrew Walter (4-2).

Lake County will enjoy an off day on Tuesday. On Wednesday the Captains will take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. No pitching match-ups have been announced at this time. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Classic Park in Eastlake, OH.
