Captains Sink Bees 6-3

(Eastlake, OH)- Cody Ferrell tallied three hits, including a two run double in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Lake County Captains beat the Burlington Bees by a final of 6-3. Ferrell now has eight RBI's on the season. The Captains snapped an eight game losing streak.

Lake County (5-9) took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Captains lead off hitter Clint Frazier reached on an error, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Nellie Rodriguez. The score was 1-0 Captains.

The Bees (7-6) tied the score in the top of the second inning. Ryan Dalton walked and went to third base on a single by Exicardo Cayones. The throw went to third base but skipped by the third basemen. An error was charged the second of the night on the Captains. The runner scored from third base and the score was even at 1-1.

Lake County vaulted in front once again in the bottom of the third inning. Eric Haase smashed his third homerun of the season off of the facing of the bleachers in left field. The solo shot put Lake County up 2-1. The Captains added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Claudio Bautista walked and moved to third on a single by Josh McAdams. Cody Ferrell then singled home Bautista and the score was 3-1.

The score was made 3-2 in the top half of the sixth inning. With one out, Chad Hinshaw doubled and raced home on a two-out single from Eric Aguilera. The Captains lead was cut to one run. Clint Frazier quickly made it a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Frazier hit a solid single for his first hit as a Captain. His RBI gave the Captains a two run advantage.

Burlington added a run in the ninth, but the Captains prevailed 6-3.

RHP Adam Plutko (0-0) started game two for the Captains and did not get the decision. Plutko pitched four innings and allowed just one hit. Plutko allowed one unearned run, he walked two and struck out a season-high eight. Caleb Hamrick pitched four and solid innings of relief. Hamrick (1-1) earned the win allowing two earned run on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Wander Beras earned his first save of the season in the ninth inning.

RHP Clint Sharp (0-1) started for the Bees and pitched five and one third inning. He took the loss. Sharp pitched five and one third inning, and allowed four runs, three earned on seven hits, he walked three and struck out five. Eswarlin Jimenez pitched two and two thirds innings of relief allowing five hits, two earned runs, zero walks and five strikeouts.

The Captains will remain home in Eastlake, Ohio on Friday to take on the Burlington in game two of a three game series. RHP Mitch Brown (0-1, 3.68) will start for the Captains and the Bees will counter with RHP Michael Clevinger (0-0, 3.12). First Pitch is at 6:30 PM from Classic Park.
