Captains to Host Special Events and Theme Nights in 2013

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, is announcing the team's promotional schedule for the 2013 season this week. Following announcements of the club's giveaways and standard theme nights earlier this week, today, the team presents its lineup for a variety of special event nights scheduled this year.

The Captains will open the 2013 season at home at Classic Park on Thursday, April 4 with one of the biggest Opening Day Celebrations in the team's history. The first 1,500 fans will receive a fleece blanket courtesy of Lake Health while all fans will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of PNC. The Captains will offer free coffee, hot chocolate and hand warmers during the game and there will be a special Happy Hour at Castaway's Bar, highlighted by 25-cent draft beer, from 5:30-8 PM. The Captains will host a SuperMegaPrizeAthon that night with hundreds of gifts and prizes awarded to lucky fans. Before the game, a special ceremony will honor one of our local members of the military.

Heritage nights and many other special event nights are back this season. The Captains Heritage Nights pay tribute to several nationalities who call the Cleveland area home as we welcome their cultures, traditions, food and entertainment to the park. Hungarian Heritage night is June 8, African American Heritage Night is June 14, Italian Heritage Night is scheduled for July 19, Slovenian Heritage Night is planned for August 5, Irish Heritage Night is on August 10 and Jewish Heritage Night will be on August 11.

Four Faith Nights will be part of the 2013 lineup on June 14, July 8, July 20 and July 21, which will feature the annual pre-game Catholic Mass.

The Captains will host four special jersey auctions this season with a Superhero-themed jersey on June 15, an Indians throwback-themed jersey on June 28, an Italian-themed jersey on July 19, and a Joshua McKinley-designed jersey on a yet to be determined date. A portion of the proceeds from these auctions will benefit Captains Charities and other local non-profit organizations.

The Captains will celebrate Halloween Weekend on May 17 and 18, Rock & Roll Weekend on July 6 and 7, and Christmas in July Weekend on July 20 and 21.

The Captains will host its signature event, the fifth annual Cleveland Sports History Night on June 28 when the organization pays tribute to the highs and lows of Cleveland sports teams through the ages.

June 29, the day the world famous Tour de France bicycle race begins, the organization will hold Lancestrong Night. The evening will be dedicated to all things related to the cycling culture as the Captains encourage fans to ride their two-wheelers to the game and take part in a pre-game Tour around the warning track at Classic Park. The game will feature many in-game promotions focused on recent news surrounding the sport of cycling. Fans who wear their yellow Livestrong bracelets will receive a complimentary Launch-A-Ball to take part in the popular post-game activity to win prizes from the world of cycling.

Many other themed nights are planned, including Nurse Appreciation, Restaurant Appreciation, and Teacher Appreciation nights. The Captains will also welcome apartment dwellers, Superhero enthusiasts, Star Wars fans and will host the annual Captains Competitive Eating Olympics. There will also be events planned to celebrate Mother's and Father's Days.

The annual morning games will take place four times this year as the Captains welcome school children, camp kids and seniors to these special games that take place at 11 AM. There are also two special 1 PM weekday games on Wednesday, May 29 which is be Senior Day presented by Wickliffe Country Place and Tuesday, August 6.
