Captains to Host Special Events and Theme Nights in 2014

February 13, 2014

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, the Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, is announcing the team's promotional schedule for the 2014 season this week. Following announcements of the club's giveaways and standard theme nights earlier this week, today, the team presents its lineup for a variety of special event nights scheduled this year.

The Captains will open the 2014 season at home at Classic Park on Friday, April 4 versus the Lansing Lugnuts and the first 1,500 fans will receive a Captains Team Scarf courtesy of Lake Health while all fans will receive a magnet schedule as well.

The Captains will host two Peanut Free Nights on June 19 and 20. Classic Park will be cleaned and sanitized so that our fans with peanut allergies will be able to attend these games with their families and enjoy a ballgame in a peanut free environment.

As part of Military Night on June 21, a seat at the ballpark will be dedicated to salute POW-MIA soldiers. This seat will be left forever unoccupied as a remembrance of those who have yet to return home and be reunited with their loved ones. The Captains are partnering with Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 of Cleveland who will be on hand to raise awareness of POW-MIA causes and raise money through a 50/50 raffle run that night by Captains Charities.

The Captains will host its signature event, the sixth annual Cleveland Sports History Night on August 1 when the organization pays tribute to the great and not so great moments in Cleveland sports history. Fans in attendance will be able to meet several Cleveland sports icons and enjoy the Captains spin on memorable sports moments of the past.

Heritage nights and many other special event nights are back this season. The Captains Heritage Nights pay tribute to several nationalities who call the Cleveland area home as we welcome their cultures, traditions, food and entertainment to the park. Hungarian Heritage night is June 7, Italian Heritage Night is scheduled for July 11, Slovenian Heritage Night is planned for August 4, Irish Heritage Night is on August 23 and Jewish Heritage Night will be on August 31.

Five Faith Nights will be part of the 2014 lineup on June 6, July 13, July 14 and July 25 and 26. The Faith Night on July 13 will feature the annual pre-game Catholic Mass.

The Captains will host three special jersey auctions this season with a Star Wars-themed jersey on July 12, an Ugly Sweater-themed jersey on July 26 to coincide with Christmas in July, and an Indians throwback-themed jersey on August 1 as part of Cleveland Sports History Night. A portion of the proceeds from these auctions will benefit Captains Charities and other local non-profit organizations.

The Captains will celebrate Halloween Weekend on May 9 and 10 and all fans are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes for this fun and spooky event.

Christmas in July Weekend is July 25 and 26 and Classic Park will be decorated accordingly and there may even be a visit from the bearded man from the North Pole.
