Captains Walk-Off With 9-8 Win on Friday

(Eastlake, OH)- Clint Frazier hits a walk-off single as the Lake County Captains defeated the Dayton Dragons 9-8 on Friday Night. Brian Ruiz had a game tying triple and scored the game-winning run when Frazier singled. The Captains improve to 2-1 in extra innings.

Dayton (16-11) scored a run in the top of the second inning. Phillip Ervin doubled to begin the inning, then advanced to third on an error and scored on a double play groundout and the score was 1-0 Dayton. The Dragons added two more in the inning. For the inning, three runs, on five hits, with two errors and Dayton led 3-0.

Lake County (8-20) cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Brian Ruiz singled, Clint Frazier walked, and Claudio Bautista came to the plate. Bautista tripled off the left field wall and both runners scored to trim the Dayton lead to one run.

Lake County took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nellie Rodriguez doubled to lead off the inning. Rodriguez came around to score on a single from Anthony Santander. The score was tied at 3-3. With two outs Josh McAdams singled to right and Santander scored to give the Captains the 4-3 lead. Lake County added an insurance run in the seventh inning when Claudio Bautista singled home Clint Frazier with two outs. The score was 5-3.

Dayton re-took the lead in the top half of the eighth inning. Julio Morillo hit a single up the middle to tie the ballgame at 5-5. Morrilla scored on a single from Carlton Daal and the score was 6-5 Dayton.

Lake County scored a run to tie the ballgame in the bottom of the eight inning. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch sailed to the back-stop and Nellie Rodriguez came into score. The Dragons Manager Jose Nieves was ejected for arguing the play at the plate. The game was tied at 6-6 headed to extras.

Dayton scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning and took the lead over the Captains 8-6 on Friday night. The Dragons had RBI singles from Julio Morillo and Jamodrick McGruder to take the two run lead.

RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-1) started the ballgame for the Captains. Milbrath pitched five innings and allowed six hits, three unearned runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Milbrath did not get a decision. Caleb Hamrick (1-3) took the loss. Hamrick allowed five runs all earned on seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Kenny Mathews pitched the final two thirds of an inning to halt the game for the Captains.

RHP Sal Romano (3-1) started for Dayton and did not get a decision. Romano pitched six innings and allowed nine hits, four earned runs, no walks and he struck out nine. Joel Bender pitched one inning and allowed one earned run on two hits. Ryan Kemp earned the win after twirling two innings and allowing one earned run on one hit, three walks and four strikeouts. The save went to Scott Brattvett his fifth of the season.

The Captains will remain at home in Eastlake, Ohio on Saturday to continue a three game series with the Dayton Dragons. The Captains will start RHP Adam Plutko (1-0, 4.43) and Dayton will counter with LHP Aroldis Chapman (0-0) will be on a rehab start for Dayton but will give way to LHP Ismael Guillon (2-0, 1.59). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM from Classic Park.
