Clinton Sweeps Captains

(Eastlake, OH) - The Clinton LumberKings (10-10) defeated the Lake County Captains (6-16) by a final of 13-7. The LumberKings used four straight hits in the eighth inning to take the lead for good. Jabari Henry doubled home Katel Marte and that tied the game, later Henry scored on a base hit by Guillermo Pimentel and it was a 7-6 Clinton lead.

Clinton nabbed the early lead. The LumberKings used three hits, including a two run double from Patrick Kivlahan. Clinton led 2-0. The Captains came back in the bottom of the first inning. LeVon Washington singled and moved to third on a throwing error. Dorssys Paulino singled to right field and Washington scored. The score was 2-1 Clinton. The game was tied when later in the inning; Luigi Rodriguez hit a sac fly to center field and the score was tied 2-2.

Lake County took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Jeremy Lucas walked and moved to second on a ground out, and raced home after a single by Washington. The score was 3-2 Captains headed to the third inning.

Clinton retook the lead in the top half of the fourth inning. With two outs, Taylor Ard singled and so did Katel Marte. Jabari Henry walked to load the bases. Tim Lopes doubled home two runs and Henry was caught in a rundown between third base and home plate, and was eventually retired. The two runs scored gave Clinton a 4-3 lead.

It became 5-3 when Clinton added an unearned run in the sixth inning. A RBI single by Gaby Guerrero gave the LumberKings a two run cushion. Lake County made it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Luigi Rodriguez walked and moved to second with one out.

Lake County took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Leo Castillo doubled and scored on a single by LeVon Washington. Washington later scored in the inning on a passed ball. Washington was 5 for 5 on the day. The score was 6-5 Captains.

With the score 7-6 Clinton, the LumberKings added on with a six run ninth inning. Clinton sent 10 men to the plate including a two RBI single by Patrick Kivlehan. Kivlehan had 4 RBI's on the day. The LumberKings swept the three game series from the Captains. Lake County scored a run on an RBI double by Luigi Rodriguez in the ninth inning. The Final was 13-7 Clinton.

The Captains sent RHP Dylan Baker to the hill for the start. Baker (0-2) got a no decision after pitching five innings and allowing eight hits, four earned runs and three walks and he struck out three. Michael Peoples pitched two innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run. Peoples struck out two. Felix Sterling (0-2) took the loss. Sterling pitched one inning and allowed six hits, five runs and four were earned. Sterling walked one and struck out one. Louis Head pitched one inning and allowed two unearned runs.

Clinton started the RHP Matt Anderson (0-0). Anderson did not get a decision after pitching six and one third innings. He allowed six hits, five runs, three earned, he walked three and struck out three. Oliver Garcia (2-1) got the win. He pitched one and one third innings, and allowed two hits and one unearned runs. Grady Wood finished off the game and earned his fourth save of the year because he entered in a save situation in the eighth inning.

The Captains will remain home on Sunday Afternoon to take on the Kane County Cougars. The Captains will send Luis Dejesus (0-2, 5.85) to the mound to start. Kane County will counter with the RHP Felix Pena (0-0, 2.60). First Pitch is at 4:00 PM
