Dragons Defeat Captains 7-2

(Eastlake, OH) - The Dayton Dragons used a five run top of the eleventh inning to defeat the Lake County Captains by a final of 7-2 in extra innings. With one out, Beau Amaral walked and then scored on a triple to right field by Zach Vincej. Amaral's run gave the Dragons the 3-2 lead. Dayton scored four more in the inning to take a commanding 7-2 lead. That was the final.

Dayton got on the board first. In the fourth inning, Zach Vincej doubled to lead off the inning an moved to third on a ground ball out. With two outs, Jeff Gelalich walked to put runners on the corners. Gelalich promptly stole second base. Junior Arias hit an infield single to shortstop. The throw to first went sailing into the crowd and both Vincej and Gelalich scored and it was 2-0 Dayton.

Lake County evened the score in the bottom of the fourth inning. Logan Vick homered to deep right field to lead off the frame. The homerun was the first of Vick's professional career. With two outs, Nellie Rodriguez singled, and then motored all the way around from first base on a game tying double by Leonardo Castillo. The score was tied at 2-2.

Joe Colon (0-0) started for the Captains and did not get a decision. Colon pitched three and two thirds innings and surrendered four hits, two runs, one earned run, one walk and two strikeouts. Michael Peoples pitched four and one third innings in relief and allowed just one hit while striking out three. Francisco Valera entered the ballgame in the ninth inning for the Captains. Valera pitched two shutout  innings allowing one hit and one strikeout. Felix Sterling (0-1) pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed five runs all earned. He walked two and struck out one. Josh Martin got the final out for the Captains.

Drew Cisco (1-0) started for Dayton and did not factor in the decision. Cisco pitched six innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs. Cisco fanned twelve and did allow the homer to Vick. Wes Mugarian entered for Dayton in relief. He twirled three innings, and allowed one hit, one walk and four strikeouts. Alejandro Chacin (1-0) entered in the tenth inning and pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season.

The Captains will hit the road for an eight game road trip in six days. The Captains will start with a  double header on Friday night vs. Great Lakes. In Game 1 The Captains will start RHP Mitch Brown (0-1, 15.43) and he will take on RHP Angel Sanchez (0-1, 5.40) for the Loons. In game two the Captains will send RHP Luis Morel (1-0, 3.00) to the hill to face RHP Carlos Frias from Great Lakes.  First pitch at Dow Diamond will be at 6:05 PM for game 1 and Game 2 will start approximately 20 minutes after game 1 concludes.
