(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (25-41, 52-83) nearly clawed their way back from an early deficit on Thursday night against the Lansing Lugnuts (26-40, 63-69), but could never find the key hit. After Lansing scored the first five runs of the game, the Captains came from behind and had five at-bats with the tying run at the plate down the stretch. In the end, however, the Lugnuts held on to beat Lake County at Classic Park, 7-4.
Three Lansing solo homers extended the Lugnuts' lead to 5-0. Jacob led off the third inning by hitting a towering long ball that just stayed fair over the right field foul pole. In the sixth,

Colegate continued to deal for Lake County. The right-hander struck out two batters in a one-two-three seventh inning and then pitched another perfect frame in the eighth. Colegate set down the first nine men he faced with four strikeouts, but trouble was lurking in the ninth.

Diaz (5-2) picked up the win for the Lugnuts, who won their fourth straight game. The right-hander worked 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Jimenez (2-8) took the loss for Lake County. He pitched five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. Jimenez struck out three and walked two.
The Captains play their final home game of the 2017 season on Friday night against Lansing. First pitch at Classic Park is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
