Hot Rods Cruise Past Captains

(Eastlake, OH) - For the second game in a row, the Bowling Green Hot Rods pitching staff shut out the Lake County Captains offense with a 7-0 win at Classic Park on Sunday afternoon. The Captains offense has been held scoreless the last 19 innings by Hot Rods pitching.  

The Hot Rods got on the board in the second inning off of Captains starter Caleb Hamrick when Ty Young walked to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Pat Blair tripled to score Young. Elias Torres then singled home Blair and the Hot Rods lead 2-0. 

The Hot Rods extended the lead in the third inning when Kean Wong led off the inning with his second home run of the season and his second in as many game. Alexander Simon would drive in Oscar Hernandez with a single and Pat Blair would follow with a sacrifice fly to score Young and Bowling Green took a 5-0 lead.

 

The Rods added another run in the fifth inning when Young tripled and then scored on a sacrifice fly y Simon to make 6-0.

The lead went to 7-0 in the sixth inning when Torres doubled and scored on a single by Willy Adames.

Hamrick (3-7) took the loss pitching five innings allowing six runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out two. 

Hot Rods starter Bruedlin Suero (3-3) got the win working six scoreless innings allowing only two hits, walking two and striking out six. Stone Speer pitched the final three innings to pick up his fourth save of the year. 

The Captains welcome the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers) to Classic Park on Monday for a three game series. The Captains will send RHP Dace Kime (6-12, 5.04) to the mound against RHP Chad Green (4-4, 3.50).

Tigers' outfielder Andy Dirks is expected to continue a rehab assignment with the Whitecaps while they are playing the Captains.

Monday is Buck Night and will feature $1 Five Star Brand Hot Dogs, chips, French fries, popcorn, soda and beer and $1 off a box seat ticket. Game time is 7 PM.  

Monday is also Slovenian Heritage night and traditional Slovenian food will be served and Slovenian music will be played.
