Hot Rods Halt Captains 5-3

(Bowling Green, KY)- Leonardo Reginatto tripled and scored on a single from Tommy Coyle in the eight inning and the Hot Rods beat the Captains 5-3. Coyle was at bat with two outs and a two-strike count and smacked a single up the middle and gave Bowling Green and insurance run in the eighth. They made the lead hold up and defeated the Captains in the opener of the three game series.

Lake County scored first in the top of the fourth inning. Jeremy Lucas singled with one out. Eric Haase got his first hit, of three, on the night, a double and Lucas scored to give the Captains a 1-0 lead.

Bowling Green came right back in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game. Tyler Goeddel walked, then stole second and came into score on a base hit from Justin O'Conner. The score was even at 1-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Captains re-took the lead with one swing of the bat. Nick Hamilton blasted his first professional homerun over the left field wall and the Captains took a 2-1 lead. Hamilton had two hits on the night.

Bowling Green took command of the game with a three run bottom of the fifth. Geoff Rowan reached on an error and then jogged home on a two-run homer by Brandon Martin. The homerun for Martin was his sixth of the season and the Hot Rods led 3-2. Later in the inning, Goeddel doubled and came into score on a single from Reginatto. The score was 4-2.

Lake County scored one final run in the top of the sixth inning. Dorssys hit his team leading 27th double and motored around to score on a single from Haase. The score was 4-3. It stayed that way until the eighth. The Captains lost 5-3.

LHP Luis Lugo (0-1) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Lugo pitched five innings and allowed five hits, four runs, three earned runs, he walked a pair and fanned three. Geoff Davenport pitched three innings in relief. Davenport allowed three hits, one earned run, no walks and he struck out two.

LHP Kevin Brandt (3-0) started the game for the Hot Rods and earned the win. Brandt pitched six and one third inning, He allowed eight hits, three earned runs, no walks and four strikeouts. Brandt allowed the homerun to Hamilton. Andrew Hanse pitched two and two thirds innings and did not allow a hit, or a run. Hanse picked up his third save of the season.

The Captains will stay to Bowling Green, KY for the penultimate game of the season. On Sunday, Lake County will start RHP Dylan Baker (7-6, 3.63) and Bowling Green will counter with LHP Kevin Brandt (2-0, 1.42). First pitch is at 8:05 PM from Bowling Green Ballpark.
