Kernels Sweep Captains With 4-1 Win

(Eastlake, OH) - Adam Brett Walker hit two homeruns and knocked in three RBI's as the Cedar Rapids Kernels (19-8) defeated the Lake County Captains (13-14) by a final of 4-1. Walker leads the Midwest League in homeruns with 20. With the loss the Captains fall below .500 for the first time in the second half. The Kernels swept the Captains in the three game series.

Cedar Rapids scored first. In the top of the fifth inning, Jeremias Pineda was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, he then stole second base. Then Jonathan Murphy singled him to third, and Niko Goodrum drove him in on a ground out to third base. The score was 1-0.

Lake County tied the ballgame at 1-1 when Eric Haase blasted his eleventh homerun of the season to left field. The liner to left field was the Captains seventh homerun of the series against the Kernels. Cedar Rapids quickly got the run back in the top of the sixth on the first homerun of the night by Adam Brett Walker. The solo shot put Cedar Rapids up 2-1.

Jake Sisco (4-7) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Sisco pitched five innings, and allowed six hits, two earned runs, one walk and one strikeout. Sisco allowed one homerun on the night. D.J. Brown pitched three innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. Both runs scored on a two-run homer from Walker (his second of the night). Brown walked one and struck out three. Jack Wagoner pitched the ninth inning for Lake County and did not allow a run

Cedar Rapids sent LHP Brett Lee (7-4) to the mound to start the game. Lee pitched all nine innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits. Lee walked one and struck out ten. Lee pitched his second consecutive complete game for Cedar Rapids.

Saturday will kick-off Christmas in July Weekend and the game will be followed by a Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

On Saturday and Sunday, Classic Park will be decorated for Christmas, complete with a special visit by Santa Claus. Fans will also be able to enjoy a very limited supply of Great Lakes Christmas Ale. The first 1,500 fans for Saturday's game will receive a bobble doll featuring Skipper dressed in the "Puffy Coat" presented by Lake Health. The giveaway is the fourth in the series of "A Captains Story" Bobbles as the team pays homage to The Christmas Story house located in Cleveland.

The Quad Cities River Bandits come to Eastlake, Ohio on Saturday Night. In game one of a three game series, the Captains will start LHP Ryan Merritt (5-9, 3.62) and Quad Cities will counter with RHP Chris Devenski (0-1, 3.60). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Classic Park.
