RubberDucks beat Captains 11-1

(Eastlake, OH)- The Akron RubberDucks defeated the Lake County Captains by a score of 11-1 in an exhibition game presented by VisitPITTSBURGH. The RubberDucks used back-to-back homeruns by Ronny Rodriguez and Giovanny Urshela in the top of the second inning to take the early 2-1 lead. The lead held up as Cleveland's Double-A affiliate prevailed on Tuesday night.

Eric Haase blasted a homer in the bottom of the first inning to give Lake County the opening score. The Captains just managed three hits on the day. Josh McAdams singled to shallow right field in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Akron added a run in the top half of the fifth inning. Francisco Lindor walked, and Joe Wendle doubled Lindor to third base. With the bases loaded and one out Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to center field and the RubberDucks took the 3-1 lead.

Akron added on in the top of the sixth inning. Jordan Smith led off the inning with a single to right field. Bryson Myles laced a double to left field and Smith scored to make the score 4-1. The RubberDucks batted around in the inning and plated a total of eight runs. Urshela and Jerrud Sabourin each contributed two run singles. Lakewood native Alex Lavisky also laced a two run double.

The Captains will open the season on Friday April 4th vs. the Lansing Lugnuts. The Captains will give the ball to RHP Dace Kime (0-0, 0.00). Lansing will counter with LHP Jario Labourt (0-0, 0.00). First Pitch is at 6:30 PM From Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.
