Seager's Big Night Sinks Captains

Midland, MI) - Corey Seager hit a grand slam homerun in the second inning to put the Loons up 7-0 and Great Lakes (23-14) shutout of the Captains (17-19) by a final of 9-0. Seager hit the grand slam with two out in the inning. It was his second homer of the night and his eleventh of the season. Luis Dejesus allowed three homeruns in the loss. The Loons won the series from the Captains.

In the first inning, Corey Seager hit a solo shot to left field, his tenth on the season, and the Loons were ahead 1-0. It became 3-0 two hitters later, after a single by Aaron Miller, Tyler Ogle hit a homer to dead center and the Loons increased their lead to three runs. The homer by Ogle was his eleventh of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh, Seager led off with a single and scored on a double by Aaron Miller. The score was 8-0. The final run of the ballgame was scored by Miller as he raced around third after an RBI single by Webster Rivas. The score was 9-0 Loons and that was the final.

Offensively the Captains scattered four hits. Levon Washington, Nick Hamilton, Jeremy Lucas, and Zack MacPhee accounted for the singles.

RHP Luis Dejesus (4-11) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Dejesus, pitched just three innings and allowed seven earned runs. Luis gave up six hits, and two walks. Luis struck out five but surrendered three homeruns. Dejesus has allowed 21 HR this season, the most in the Midwest League. Felix Sterling pitched three innings and allowed just one hit. Sterling did not allow a run. Felix walked one and struck out two. Cody Penny pitched a pair of innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs, two walks and he fanned four.

Great Lakes sent LHP Tom Windle (3-0) to the mound to start the game. Wendle earned the win after twirling five shutout innings, and allowing just one hit and one walk. Wendle struck out six. The Loons bullpen pitched four shutout innings and allowed three hits, and did not walk a batter. The pen fanned five.

The Captains will be back in action on Tuesday Night in Fort Wayne, IN to take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the first game of a quick two game set. The Captains will start RHP Jake Sisco (4-8, 3.97) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Walker Wieckel (3-5, 5.27). First Pitch is at 7:05 PM from Parkview Field.
