South Bend Sweeps Lake County

(South Bend, IN) -The Silver Hawks (42-17) had a four run bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Lake County Captains (20-38) by a final of 7-4 on Friday Night. The win completed a four game sweep of Lake County. South Bend sent nine men to the plate, and used a bases loaded walk to tie the ballgame, an infield single to take the lead and a single by Breland Alamdova to add two more runs to the lead. After eight innings the score was 7-4 Silver Hawks that was the final.

Lake County scored three runs in the first inning. On the second pitch of the game, Yhoxian Medina lined a triple to the right field corner. Medina scored on a triple by the next hitter Dorssys Paulino and it was 1-0. Logan Vick the third hitter of the game, doubled home Paulino and the score was 2-0. Vick moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error on the Hawks Catcher Roidany Aguila and the score was 3-0.

South Bend answered in the home half of the first inning. Fidel Pena walked to start the rally. Pena stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Socrates Brito grounded out on a slow roller that deflected off the pitchers glove, and that scored Pena the score was 3-1 after one inning.

South Bend tied the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth inning. Breland Almadova walked to lead off and Brito tripled home the score was 3-2. Midwest League All- Star Brandon Drury doubled home Brito and the score was even at 3-3 headed to the seventh.

Lake County took the 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning. With a runner at third base and one out, Yhoxian Medina hit a sac fly to RF and Leonardo Castillo scored and Lake County had the late lead.

The Captains sent RHP Dylan Baker (1-5) to the mound to start the game. Baker did not get a decision. Baker pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs, on three hits. Baker walked four and struck out a pair. Felix Sterling pitched the sixth, entering the ballgame with the go-ahead run at second base and denied South Bend from scoring. Felix struck out two. Jack Wagoner took the loss, Wagoner (2-1) allowed four earned runs on four hits. Wagoner walked three and struck out four. Louis Head got the last out of the ballgame for the Captains.

South Bend gave the ball to RHP Kyle Winkler (0-0). Winkler did not get a decision. He pitched six innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs. Winkler walked two and struck out one. Will Locante. Locante pitched one third of an inning and had two walks and threw two wild pitches. Thomas Brendel got the win. Brendel (2-0) pitched an inning and two thirds and allowed just one hit and one walk. RJ Hively earned his 17th save of the season.

Saturday's game will be followed by a Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services and Fox Sports Sports Time Ohio.

It will be Hungarian Heritage night on Saturday night and traditional Hungarian food will be served and Hungarian music will be played. 

The Captains will return home for a three game home stand starting on Saturday. Lake County will start RHP Luis Dejesus (1-6, 6.87) and Bowling Green will counter with RHP Reinaldo Lopez (2-3, 3.02).
