South Bend Takes the Series with a 7-4 Win

(South Bend, IN) -South Bend scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and took momentum away from Lake County, South Bend won the game 7-4. In the inning, The Silver Hawks used three hits and a walk to score the three runs. The big hit in the inning was a single from Alex Glenn. Glenn had a pair of RBI's on the night and the Silver Hawks had a 6-4 lead after four innings.

South Bend scored the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon Drury singled, and scored on a double from Rudy Flores and the score was 1-0 South Bend. In the second inning, Mike Lang singled and Glenn doubled him home and the score was 2-0. Glenn came around to score later in the inning on a single by Breland Almadova. The score was 3-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, Lake County got the lead. With two outs, Jeremy Lucas walked and the next two hitters Richard Stock and Zack MacPhee each singled to load the bases. Jorge Martinez came to the plate. Martienz came into the ballgame hitting .189 with 1 HR and 25 RBI. Martinez connected for a grand slam and Lake County bolted out in front 4-3.

With the score 6-4, South Bend extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Silver Hawks loaded the bases with no outs. Two outs later the bases were still loaded and Luis Morel un-corked a wild pitch and Alex Glenn raced home. It was Glenn's third run scored in the ballgame. The score stood at 7-4 and that was the final.

LHP Ryan Merritt (6-9) started the game for Lake County and did not get a decision. Merritt pitched three innings, and allowed six hits, three earned runs and he struck out three. Luis Morel (2-2) took the loss after pitching four innings of relief. Morel allowed eight hits, four runs, three of which were earned, he walked one and struck out seven. Morel tossed one wild pitch. Jack Wagoner pitched one inning of relief and allowed one hit and didn't surrender a run.

South Bend sent RHP Rob Coe (2-1) to the mound to start the game and did not factor into the final decision. Coe pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out three. He yielded the grand slam to Martinez. The Bullpen for the Silver Hawks did not allow a run in five innings. The win went to Enrique Garcia (4-0) and the save went to Jose Jose his third.

The Captains will be back in action on Saturday Night in Midland, MI to take on the Great Lakes Loons. The Captains will start RHP Dylan Baker (6-5, 3.62) and Great Lakes will counter with LHP Julio Urias (2-0, 2.65). First Pitch is at 7:05 PM from Dow Diamond.
