Whitecaps Shutout Captains 4-0

(Eastlake, OH)- Dominic Ficociello blasted his first homerun of the season and the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Lake County Captains (7-18) by a final of 4-0. The homer was a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning and it capped the scoring. On the season, this is the fourth time the Captains have been shutout.

West Michigan (13-12) scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Tyler Gibson singled and Willy Adames walked to put two runners on. Tim Remes doubled to center field and both runners scored.

In the fifth, West Michigan added on. Wynton Bernard doubled and came around to score on a single by Javier Betancourt. The score was 3-0.

RHP Mitch Brown (0-3) started the ballgame for the Captains. Mitch Brown pitched five innings and allowed six hits, three earned runs and one walk. Mitch struck out two. Brown was saddled with the loss. Matt Whitehouse entered in relief for the Captains and pitched four innings. Whitehouse allowed the homer to Ficociello but no other damage. Whitehouse did not allow a walk, and he struck out four.

RHP Jonathon Crawford (1-1) started for West Michigan. Crawford earned his first professional win after pitching six shutout innings. Crawford allowed just three hits, no walks, he hit one batter and struck out seven. RHP Scott Sitz pitched one scoreless inning of relief and Julio Felix entered in the eighth inning and allowed a single and fanned two. In the ninth, Joe Mantiply entered and set down the Captains to end the game.

The Captains will remain at home in Eastlake, Ohio on Wednesday to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps in game three of a four game series. The Captains will start LHP Luis Lugo (0-3, 6.06) and West Michigan will counter with RHP Buck Farmer (2-2, 2.38). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM from Classic Park.
