Whitecaps Sink Captains 6-2

(Comstock Park, MI)- In the eighth inning, Lance Durham smashed his 14th homerun of the season over the wall in right field to cap the West Michigan 6-2 win over Lake County. Durham and the Whitecaps improve to one game under the .500 mark to (29-30) while the Captains fall one game under.500 at (30-31). The Captains fall to 2-7 against West Michigan this season.

Lake County scored two runs in the top of the third inning. Nick Hamilton singled and then moved to second on a balk. With one out, Dorssys Paulino got his team leading 26th double of the season to left field and Hamilton scored to give the Captains the 1-0 lead. Jeremy Lucas followed Paulino with a double of his own and Dorssys scored to make the score 2-0 Captains headed to the bottom of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, West Michigan scored three times to take the lead. After the first two men singled. Jake Sisco, the Captains starter, walked two runs home. The score was tied at 2-2. Sisco's night was over at this point. Luis Dejesus entered with the bases loaded and nobody out and allowed a sacrifice fly and a double play to get out of the inning only surrendering the one. The score was 3-2 West Michigan after three innings.

In the fourth inning, Jeff Holm connected with his ninth homer of the season to deep right field and the score was 4-2 Whitecaps. The Captains offensively saw two players have multi-hit games, those players were Dorssys Paulino and Nick Hamilton. The Captains lost 6-2.

RHP Jake Sixco (4-11) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Sisco just lasted two innings and allowed three runs, all were earned, on two hits. Sisco walked four and struck out and struck out two. Luis Dejesus pitched six innings in relief and allowed six hits and three earned runs. He walked one and fanned a season high nine hitters. Dejesus allowed two homeruns.

RHP Edgar De La Rosa (8-6) took the ball for West Michigan and earned the win. De La Rosa pitched five innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs and he struck out four. The West Michigan Bullpen saw four pitchers enter the game in relief. Each pitcher pitched a scoreless inning. Combined the pen allowed just two hits and struck out four.

The Captains will remain in Comstock Park, MI on Sunday to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps for a double header. Lake County will start RHP Luis Morel (5-4, 5.09) and WM will counter with RHP Jake Thompson (3-3, 3.10) in Game One. Game One is a completion of the ballgame on July eighth when the rains came at Classic Park and suspended play. The Captains will be batting in the bottom of the first trailing 1-0. The Captains will send LHP Luis Lugo (0-0,0.00) to the hill in game two and the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Calvin Drummond (2-2, 2.59) First Pitch is at 1:00 PM from Fifth Third Ballpark.
